CW: pregnancy loss
I’m so excited to finally be able to share “Nothing but Space,” out now with Phoebe online and in the beautiful print issue. This essay was nearly four years in the making, going through about a dozen drafts (including getting chopped in half!) before it made its way into the world. I so appreciate Emilie Knudsen, nonfiction editor with Phoebe, for her kind and careful attention to the piece. I also want to honor the memory of Umiko Mangiopane Post, one of the intrepid Women of Jeopardy!, who passed away in 2020 and was the first editor of this essay, whose kindness and encouragement helped to ensure that I would one day be brave enough to share this story.
Thank you so much for reading, and if your life has been touched by pregnancy loss, please do take good care before choosing to read.
